Interior Door

Custom brass doors featuring semi-translucent stone infill, combining refined craftsmanship with advanced structural engineering.

The Story

This project consists of two fully custom doors fabricated in solid brass, finished with a light natural patina that enhances the material's depth while preserving a soft, understated appearance.

Both doors are infilled with semi-translucent natural stone panels, selected for their distinctive fractured texture and organic veining. The stone allows light to pass through while maintaining privacy, creating a subtle interplay between illumination, texture, and materiality. Each panel was carefully integrated into the brass framework, requiring precise tolerances due to the weight and rigidity of the stone.

The project includes one hinged door fitted with traditional hardware, as well as a pocket sliding door concealed within the wall. The sliding door represented a major technical challenge, as the combined weight of brass and stone required a reinforced heavy-duty track system specifically engineered to support substantial loads while ensuring smooth and reliable operation.

Pocket door systems demand early coordination during construction, as the internal track and structural reinforcement must be installed prior to wall finishes. This anticipatory approach is essential to guarantee proper alignment, long-term durability, and a seamless final integration within the architectural envelope.

Stone species, patina tones, and opening mechanisms can be customized to suit each project, allowing these doors to adapt to both contemporary and classic interior environments.
