Forged Steel Stair Railing

Custom forged steel staircase and railing designed for a private residence in Texas.

The Story

The structure features a light and sculptural composition, creating an open and airy staircase that emphasizes movement and verticality.

The central spine of the stair is made from a structural I-beam (IPN) that was heated and twisted, forming a dynamic architectural element that supports the floating steel step frames. The railing is entirely fabricated from hand-forged steel, with slender bars and subtle curves that reinforce the organic flow of the staircase.

All metal components were finished with a dark steel patina, highlighting the handcrafted character of the piece while integrating naturally with the surrounding architecture. The wood treads were installed later by the carpenter, which is why they are not visible in this fabrication-stage photograph.
